London Fields

Continuing our expansion in commercial interiors, branding company Be-engaged contacted us to design their new HQ in London Fields. The main aim of the project was to create designated areas for their staff to work individually as well as a team. The overall design aesthetic is a fusion of Scandinavian inspired design, raw warehouse styles mixed with eclectic touches to create a fresh look unique to their brand and young attitude.

GENERAl

When we first visited the client to talk through the project requirements, it was a completely empty shell and core space. His vision was to create a working space for his team which is minimal but still have an edge with pops of colour. We decided to keep a lot of the concrete exposed and opted for sealing the raw plaster in some parts and using white paints on the wall for the minimal base.

As for the flooring, we decided to go for Marmoleum, which is a natural linoleum, CO2 neutral flooring renowned for its durability, sustainability and high quality perfect for commercial spaces with heavy foot traffic. This gave us a seamless look and we were also able to play around with the colours and create a design element on the first floor with this. Just like all of our projects, space planning was a big part of the initial design process. We kept the space open but defined different areas for their specific purposes; on the ground floor we have: the bathrooms, a lounge area by the entrance, a dining area, a functional kitchenette and the large open plan team working space. On the first floor we have three main areas: a creative space for team meetings, a conference room and the managers office.

LOUNGE/KITCHEN/DININg

Upon entering the office there is a corridor leading to the main office space. On one side of the corridor is the bathroom door, on the opposite side are cupboards designed by us housing the boiler and various utility services as well as a coat wardrobe. At the end of the corridor is the small lounge area: the transparent ceiling mounted bubble chair, a graphic rug, two armchairs and vertical gardens welcome you in the office. Neutral and bright colours characterised this space: setting the tone for the entire office as well as injecting some fun. Next to it is the dining area. We used our client existing ping pong table together with two terrazzo bistro tables accompanied but fun low stools. We also design the bench seat with integrated planters. The TV wall has been cladded with a zig zag wall panelling and painted with a bright orange paint. There is also a Play Station for the few “not busy” days.

The kitchen is compact but functional and features all needed integrated appliances.

BATHROOM

The basins area feature two graphic black and white floor to ceiling tiles; wall mounted chrome taps and oval counter top basins complete the look. Inside the cubicles we used bright neon metro tiles (orange and green), the colours of the tiles has been used on the doors too. White paint everywhere else.

OFFICE SPACE

The office/working space needs to accommodate twenty-one workstations, we therefore decided to use large co-working tables seating 6 people each. We also designed bespoke an oak partition shelving system to divide the space which is a focal part of the project. The colour palette is light and neutral: White, natural oak and tan faux leather.

BRAINSTORMING AREA

This space is used for creative meetings with the entire team. We wanted to create a fun, colourful and inspiring space. Bold colours, mismatched chairs and graphics are at the core the design. We designed abstract rings on the floor as well as a mural on the wall to bring life to this space. The oval table sits at the centre of the space.

MANAGERS OFFICE

This is a small and quiet space at the back of the office. Four electric adjustable height desk sit there just next to a floor to ceiling green vertical garden.

MEETING ROOM

Unlike the rest of the office, this space is separate and private. An acoustic glass partition wall enclose the room and sheer curtains to give privacy when needed. A conference table for eight people is at the centre of the room and a natural oak DNA shaped pendant light hangs above it. On the longest wall we installed fluted wooden panels to give warmth to the room and house the TV which can be used during meetings for presentations.
