How we renovated this 2-bedroom flat and integrated the existing furniture into our design
After living in her two-bedroom flat in Wapping for years, our latest client decided she wanted to renovate and refresh the entire space but keep most of her existing furniture. When she approached us, the main requirements were to install new flooring throughout, a new kitchen, a complete renovation of the small bathroom and a redesign of the staircase.
Our design approach has been different compared to previous projects. Because the client had an emotional connection with the existing pieces of furniture and decorations, we had to adapt to her maximalist style. When we first visited the space, we immediately noticed our client’s love for bold colours, art and eclectic objects. The staircase was dated, and a dummy wall divided the entryway, making the space look smaller and dark. The bathroom needed an upgrade too: the water pressure wasn’t good enough, and hot water took some time to reach the first floor, where it is located.

GENERAL
We started designing the space by selecting an LVT flooring that would have brought together the different styles and made the flat harmonious. We decided to go with vinyl flooring as it is more durable and because a kitten is living in the flat. The design is called French Weave: characterised by a classic woven pattern and geometry which we adapted to modern-day use.
We also injected the Space Shack sleek look by removing the dummy wall in the entryway and having glass balustrades. The entire staircase has been renovated, and the wooden treads are stained in the same colour as the flooring.

KITCHEN AND LIVING ROOM
The original kitchen has been completely stripped out and we designed a U-shape kitchen in collaboration with JLH. Originally, there was only an under-counter fridge; we replaced it with a tall 70/30 Fridge freezer and floating shelves on the opposite side. The cabinets are handless for a cleaner look and the colour a deep forest green colour called Mangetout. The grey quartz worktop tones down the entire design and gives a more contemporary look. We also selected a brass tap to give that extra warmth to the entire kitchen. Coming out of the kitchen we have the living space, all furniture was existing but for the sofa and ceiling light. We also designed a bespoke shelving unit in one alcove between the chimney and the window wall.

BATHROOM
The Bathroom had a drastic transformation. Black and white floor tiles together with glossy dark green wall tiles give the space a dramatic and opulent look. All FF&E and taps are from Devon and Devon in a black nickel finish.
